Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to Term 4.
As we look forward to the end of the year you will notice we are looking to make sure all our usual events are returned to our calendar.
Stage 3 are off to camp.
The disco is back on.
The off site sport will return.
Graduation is booked.
Our end of year rewards day however is a casualty of the pool closure. We have contacted lots of venues regarding availability and will let you know as soon as we have a plan.
This is a short and sweet note today as I have put lots of subheadings in to make sure everyone gets the messages!
Talk soon
Ann
DISCO -Wednesday 2nd November
The venue for the disco will be the YAMBA Golf Club as we are now too big for our school hall! A flyer will be in the next newsletter. This will include the theme.
Into the future we could look at doing 2 discos but will be advised by the school sentiment. Just want to have a disco!
Safe on Social - Thursday 10th November
As it says on the calendar. This is one of the best educational sessions you will see. Next week we will send out a booking form and a babysitting form too.
Staff Development Day - Friday 11th November
As a diocese we have been asked to take another staff development day in Term 4 to prepare for the new syllabus document introduction coming in English and Mathematics in 2023. If you have any concerns please contact Ann.
Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 - Swimming
We have been unable to secure enough swimming coaches to offer swimming for ES1 and S1 this year. Instead Mr Dougherty is looking into the possibility of offering an intensive in Term 1 for our lower school children from 2022 (S1 and S2). More information to come as we finalise this.
We are waiting on confirmation of our Sporting Schools Grant to have the whole school go off site for basketball in the coming weeks. It is approved and we are arranging access.
RE News - Socktober
On Tuesday 25th October students are encouraged to wear crazy socks to school and bring a gold coin donation for Catholic Mission.
In 2022, students and their families across Australia will raise funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity.
The Catholic Mission has projects on the ground that will help sustain and enrich the lives of vulnerable children who are in need of our support.
Thank you for your support with this initiative.
Sport News
Athletics
Will Hutchinson will be travelling down to Sydney next week to compete at the NSW PSSA Athletics Carnival at Homebush. Will has qualified for Long Jump after winning the event at the Polding Carnival in Newcastle at the end of last term. We wish Will all the best and look forward to hearing about his experience.
Basketball
The Lower Clarence Schools Basketball Gala Day will be taking place over the next two Mondays for Stage 2 and Stage 3 students at the Raymond Laurie Sports Centre.
Stage 2 on the 17th October and Stage 3 on the 24th October.
This is a non-competitive, fun day, run by the Yamba Trawlers Basketball Club that is aimed at introducing the students to the game of Basketball in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. Please check your Compass App for all the information and to give consent/payment for your child to attend the day.
Summer Sports Trials
The Zone Summer Sport Trials will be happening in Week 3 this term. These trials are for students in Years 4 and 5, who are interested in trialling for the Zone team in the sports of Cricket, Touch, Basketball, Tennis and Softball. Students who nominate for these trials must be playing the sport regularly, at at least local club level or higher. The note with all the information regarding dates and venues for the trials will be sent out with students next Monday.
Little J's
We had a blast in Little J’s today, as we ventured into all things space! We made a rocketship collage artwork with Miss Mooney, designed and built rockets using the big cubby pieces with Mrs Imeson, and used tessellation shapes to construct stars and rockets with Miss Haines. So much fun!
Little J's
ES1
ES1 are excited to be back for their final term of Kindergarten! We have been busy writing and talking about our holidays. In Mathematics, we are noticing that 3D objects are all around us. We are sorting and representing three-dimensional objects and describing them using everyday language. Parents, can you help us to identify and describe - spheres, cylinders, cones and cubes in our home environment?
Stage 1
Welcome to term 4! We have another busy term ahead of us with lots of exciting things to look forward to. This week in PDHPE we started to talk about looking after our bodies and in particular the 5 food groups. Students enjoyed cutting out healthy and unhealthy food options and pasting them onto our bodies. In English we are learning about persuasive writing- be warned parents, students may be coming home and testing their persuasive language out on you! In maths students have been working hard on their multiplication and division strategies using arrays- ask them to show you how they use sentence writing to solve a multiplication.
Stage 2
Stage 2 have been looking at Time in Mathematics to start the term. A part of this topic has seen us learning how to read and interpret a variety of timetables. The students have been looking at a range of timetables for things such as sports carnivals, trains, buses and school. They have even had a go at creating some of their own timetables. Pictured below is some of their own interpretations of a timetable for the “perfect school day”
Stage 3
Mitch
This week, the bike track has been open for every class. Each class has been given a specific day to bring their bike to school. It was great to see the bush playground being used!
Aiden
In Science this week, we learned about objects that float and sink. We created experiments and made some interesting discoveries. We found that a plastic spoon sank, a glue stick sank, and that a counter kept afloat if you slowly placed it in the water! Who would have thought?
Willow
Later in the week, in Science, as we had been learning about buoyancy and how the massive cruise ships can keep afloat. We were given a design task to create a boat out of one piece of tin foil. Once we had made the boats, we tested them to see if they would float and how much they could hold before sinking. We had some amazing results with some boats holding up to 500 1 cm cubes!
