Dear Parents and Carers

It has been a lovely day today with our fathers, grandfathers and significant others joining us for breakfast, a rousing game of handball, a fierce game of basketball and a slightly muddy adventure on the touch football field. Next week we will feature the images captured by the staff in the newsletter.

As you know we value opportunities to welcome our community back on site. Mrs Jeffrey and I are still covered in BBQ but enjoyed the comradery the bussle and the efforts of all staff and families to be present and enjoy the morning. When I looked at my watch at 9:15 am and we still had dads on site it was hard to commence the school day!

Wishing all our dads, grandfathers and significant role models the best of a weekend.

Enjoy the weekend

Ann

Congratulations again to the children who made their First Communion last Saturday evening at St James Catholic Church, Yamba. And a big thank you to Father Nicolas for celebrating Mass with us and also to the families and friends who came along and made this evening so special.

LOP News

Reading at home should be a positive experience and crucial to developing attitudes as well as practising and applying reading skills and knowledge. The texts should be a few levels lower than texts used in the classroom in a guided reading session. 'When children are sent home with books they can already read, they have opportunities to develop appropriate expression, to practise chunking and pausing and most importantly to build their confidence'.

Little J's News

What a fun day in Little J’s! We read books, danced to The Wiggles, did finger painting art, and made a special present to give Dad on Sunday morning. We were also really excited to find the sunflower seeds we planted last week have started to grow! Check out Instagram for pictures from our day!

ES1 News

This week in ES1 we have been celebrating EVERYTHING about books! We have read some excellent Book Week Books - Stellaphant, Walk of the Whales & Jetty Jumping are just a few favourites! We have also had some ‘celebrity’ guest teachers visit our room to read their favourite picture books. Thank you to Miss Dawson, Mrs Dougherty, Miss Haines & Mr Dougherty for taking the time to read to us. We are very busy creating an information book titled: All About My Dad. We hope our dads enjoy reading the facts and diagrams all about themselves on Father’s Day!

Stage 1 News

Over the past few weeks Stage 1 has been learning about how we grow and change. Students have found learning about the human body to be very interesting. Learning the names of the different bones in our skeletal system and the different organs inside our bodies.

Stage 2 News

This week in Stage 2 we celebrated book week. The playground was buzzing with excitement as we awaited the arrival of our friends, eager to see everyone in their Book Week costume. We spent the day dressed as our favourite book characters. We paraded in front of the whole school. We read amazing new books shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. We then completed activities relating to these books. Being a class that loves to read - we were in heaven.

Here are some of our favourite parts:

Jo - I loved doing the bookweek activity rotations

Fionn - I loved parading in my Irish Warrior costume

Levi - It was good to see all the costumes people dressed up in and we got to do activities

Siaan - I loved how good all the costumes were for the parade. People tried really hard to have a good costume

Sailor - I loved being able to dress up and walk around while the music was playing

Austin - I loved seeing all the costumes. I thought Heath’s costume was good because he was Alfalfa. And Sol was Mr Twit with a great beard!

Sarai - I loved getting to see other people’s costumes. And all the activities we got to do!

Jake - I liked walking around and getting to say stuff on the microphone

Sev - I loved marching around and telling everyone about your costume
