Dear Parents and Carers
Normally I would write my Blog post today about the week that was. That is a bit tricky this week as I have been away...BUT before I left on Monday during the day and into the evening we had the most fabulous celebration of the 100 Days of Kindy for our newest learners. This was not a thing when we all went to school but it is now!
What an amazing turnout of families building a community in our lower school. A great night was had by all and lots of great sharing and connecting tool place over pizza! The ES1 team worked exceptionally hard to ensure that the day was a very positive experience. I also need to thank Christine Morrison who is our diocesan representative from Parent Assembly for her support.
Christine will be down again on Monday for the Informed Consent Evening (offered under the Parent Assembly Grants). This initiative seeks to build knowledge and confidence when dealing with online consent to ensure that all our community "travel safely" on Social Media.
We had Kirra Prendergast with us previously and the presentations where fantastic. We are glad to be able to be part of the information evening and class updates as we know that this is a vital conversation for and with all our children. If you have not booked please just turn up or leave a message with the office or over email as we would love to see as many parents as possible in attendance. More information is at the bottom of the newsletter.
Next Friday we begin the Little J's program for 2022. We have 25 children starting with us into the new year and we have siblings and new families joining us at school.
The cycle continues.
Best Wishes
Ann

Reconciliation
Next Wednesday a group of students from St James School will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This Sacrament is one of the most unique and beautiful Sacraments in the Catholic faith. Jesus Christ, in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament of Confession, so that we as sinners can obtain forgiveness for our sins and mend our relationship with God and the Church. The sacrament “washes us clean,” and renews us in Christ. Following this Sacrament will be First Holy Communion, where students will receive the Eucharist for the first time. We congratulate Isabel Duckett, Clarence Dougherty, Lola Dougherty, Jack White, Owen Mortimer, Aaron Perry, Kydan Jones, Eamon Mawn, Willow Seivers, Gemma Hollington, Fin Waghorn, Savana Wheatley- Mazzitelli, Levi O’Shea, Jack Cassano, Henry Miller and Mitchell Galouzis on receiving this special Sacrament and keep them in our prayers.

Little J's News
Welcome to Little J’s 2022! We are busy working hard behind the scenes to get ready for when our Little J’s program starts next Friday, August 26th. We have 25 Kindergarten students joining the St James’ school community in 2023, and over the coming weeks we will introduce you to each of them! This week, we are very excited for you all to meet James and Anderson!

ES1 News
ES1 celebrated their 100th day of learning on Monday! We had a wonderful evening in the ES1 room with a presentation, family games and a dinner under the Big Top! A BIG thank you to Chrissy Morrison from the CSO Parent Assembly for organising and sponsoring this wonderful community-building event.
Enjoy the video below as each student explains what they value most after the first 100 days of learning….
Stage 1
We have started ‘Position’ in maths this week. We are beginning to explore positional language and how we use it to give directions and navigate a location. For our rich task we worked in teams of three to navigate an obstacle course. One person was blindfolded, one was the safety support person and the other person was giving the directions around the course. Everyone had a lot of fun. We also discovered that we had to be very detailed about our directions so that the person blindfolded knew where to go.
Stage 2
In Stage 2 this week we have been discussing what it means to be an independent learner. We get to practice these skills in our reading group rotations each day. We are assigned a roster of activities and we work our way through rotations doing our best to complete them throughout the week. We are getting so good at working through these sessions and the teachers are amazed at our ability to work independently.
This term’s activities include Kids News, Podcasts, Spelling, Behind the News, Book Reports, and Stamina Reading. Each of these activities gives us an opportunity to practice a variety of skills such as comprehension, locating specific information, forming an opinion, developing new vocabulary, and identifying spelling patterns.
We have been taking on feedback each week to improve both our work habits and the quality of the work we produce. Teachers enjoy this part of each day, as they get to watch us develop these skills to make us better learners all round.
