Dear Parents and Carers

Next Monday night Janita Thompson from the Catholic Schools Office is presenting the way forward for our previous parent assembly model.

The Diocese (as a company) has two options to consider. It is expected that every school must have one of the two options going forward. Janita is seeking feedback from our school as to which direction we would like to go and the opportunites this provides. Babysitting will be provided as will dinner. At this stage we have about 6 parents attending and would love to have a bigger group. I know that you all care deeply about this agenda and recognise the importance of voice and choice in this formation time. All school communities will be involved in this change and all school communities will be asked to make these choices in the near future. Of course once this consultation period is over the planning will go to the Diocesan Education Board who will make the final decisions.

We would love to see you there on Monday. If you miss booking in (below) just ring me Monday.

Have a lovely weekend

Ann

Sport News

As mentioned in last week's newsletter, we had a team of around 30 students represent our school at the Zone Athletics carnival in Coffs Harbour last Thursday. Some fantastic individual and team results were achieved on the day, and as a result we had 16 students from our school qualify for the Diocesan carnival to be held back in Coffs Harbour next Wednesday, 10th August. LOP News

Reading at home should be a positive experience and crucial to developing attitudes as well as practising and applying reading skills and knowledge. The texts should be a few levels lower than texts used in the classroom in a guided reading session. 'When children are sent home with books they can already read, they have opportunities to develop appropriate expression, to practise chunking and pausing and most importantly to build their confidence'.

ES1 News

We are very excited that ES1 has some new investigations.

All About Forces is where we will investigate push and pull forces and test out our ideas and knowledge just like Scientists do. A  Commonwealth Games space has also been created where we will investigate the events that our Australian athletes are currently competing in.

We have already done some writing about our favourite sport and we cheered the Aussie swimmers on when they won the relay!!

We are also in the process of changing our WIRES space into The Peach Farm.

ES1 have been busy at WIRES “releasing the animals back into the wild” as they have all recovered

Here is some action from the classroom….

Stage 1 News

Stage 1 has finalised some new investigation spaces this week. Students have expressed their thoughts and ideas for different spaces and together we have finished bringing them to reality. We have a putt putt space, where students can design, make and play their own putt putt course. A McCafe and McDonalds drive through for dramatic play (thank you for the McDonald carton donations!) Box construction, where many students are building cars for the drive through, as well as many other creative pieces (another big thank you for the incoming donations!)

Stage 2 News

As part of Stage 2’s Science unit on Forces, this week the students conducted an experiment to try and show how Magnets can act as a non-contact force. There were some great predictions and ideas on display and the students thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with different weights to try and find a result.
