Dear Parents and Carers
I have spent the last three days at a conference with CSO staff, Diocesan priest and principals from across the 46 Catholic schools. The highlight from the rather packed agenda for me was the work on the attributes of students that the Diocesan of Lismore seeks to develop in tandem with families. This work comes from work done with students and parent focus groups from across the Diocese. I wonder what disposition you might expect to see in this document? Upon my return next week, I will share the first draft from this process. I would be interested to hear your thoughts indeed. I look forward to bringing this work to you in consultation with Janita Thomson on the evening of the Disco 3rd August.
There were many other more company related operational matters unpacked but for me our most pressing area for future work continues to remain our Parent Partnerships. While it is nice to have families back on site true collaboration comes from authentic engagement. This feels to me like my most important work when my confidence in the teaching and learning agenda is high. I love teaching and know that my teaching load in Stage 1, while important "feeds my soul" while I am completing a necessary task.
I am sorry to have missed the Athletics Carnival and thank all families and staff who ensured that the day was successful especially when meetings and illness reduced the workforce.
Thank you again.
See you next week,
Ann

SAVE the DATE!
Dear Parents and Families,
Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair next term! It will open on Monday 25th July and close on Friday 29th July, 2022.
You and your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.
This is also a great way for you to learn about, and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.
Scholastic Book Fairs help us show students the wonder of reading. After all, when kids choose their own books, they will be more excited to read, and they will naturally read more!
Your children will come home with a wishlist early next term, so look out for that!
Thanks for your ongoing support,
Christine Jeffrey
RE News
Yesterday our Confirmation Candidates travelled to St Joseph’s Maclean and joined with St Joeys' candidates for our annual Confirmation Retreat. Students learnt about the gifts of the Holy Spirit that they will receive at their Confirmation next Thursday evening. Please keep these students in your prayers as they prepare for this very special Sacrament.
ES1
ES1 were so excited to have the local author of one of our favourite books “Patroosh the Cheeky Pelican” visit us! Renee James answered all of the questions the students designed, like: How do you become an author? Where did you get the ideas to write your book from? How are books put together? Are the characters Seamus and Patroosh real? Will you write more books? Ask us to explain the answers to you! Students also loved the bookmarks, stickers and colouring in - but what Mrs Ferguson loved most of all were the many inspired “I-might-be-an-author-when-I-grow-up!” conversations!
Stage 1
This PDHPE we have been learning about safety. We have discussed feelings, reactions and warning signs that can help students recognise safe or unsafe situations eg. excitement, feeling anxious. We have also discussed emergency situations and people that can help us. This week we talked about Cyber Safety and how we can use computers safely. We thought that this was timely as students in stage 1 are starting to use computers more for writing tasks in english. Together as a class we constructed a set of rules that we will abide by in class when using computers in order to keep us safe.
Our class stays safe online by-
- We will tell a teacher if something that makes me feel unsafe pops up on the screen.
- We will not use other people’s log in details.
- We will not use websites without teachers permission.
- We will use our equipment safely.
- We will ask for permission before we put a photo of someone else on the internet.
Stage 2
As part of our Religion unit we have been learning about Saints. We have talked about how their courage and their stories can inspire us in our lives. This week we began our class research project on inspirational people. We chose 20th century heroes/heroines who demonstrated courage and are going to find out about their lives and see what we can learn from their example. Next week we are choosing someone in our own lives who inspires us. Make sure to ask your children about these projects - they are doing some wonderful work!
Another exciting event that took place this week was our Confirmation candidates travelling to St Joseph’s in Maclean to participate in their Confirmation retreat. They had a beautiful day and learned more about this special Sacrament they will be making next Thursday.
We will be keeping these children in our prayers over the next week.
