Dear Parents and Carers
Week 8 sees St James beginning the process of finalising 2021 and planning for 2022. Over the next couple of weeks you will receive your school reports, be able to watch the captain speeches, watch the End of Year Assembly and we can go to the Pool and Grafton Waterslide!
This one was touch and go but the Grafton Pool risk assessment was strong enough that the CSO has cleared the event. In previous years we have decided wet weather would stop us going so we ask for your prayers that the weather is "fine enough", "just about fine enough", "We are in the water, we can't get wetter" so that we can attend. This event is sponsored by the Parish School Forum as they paid for the buses last year and we were unable to attend.
As we move into the Christmas season, as a school we are all studying the good news of Jesus' birth to celebrate the beginnings of our faith journey.
Your Compass App will be released this afternoon, the children are keen on their icy pole incentive.
Having everyone connected is the direction the Diocese of Lismore is heading with communication and we thank you for your engagement.
Wishing you all the best of a weekend.
Regards
Ann

RE News
In our busy world, children are bombarded at an early age with noises, stimuli, and a message to keep busy. As a result, our consistent fast pace can detract from our ability to be still and silent with God. One of the ways to regain this is by teaching students the practice of Christian Meditation.
Christian Meditation is a simple way of silent prayer practiced by Christians as early as the fourth century. Children are natural meditators and readily open their hearts and minds to God’s presence within and around them. Over time, as we develop a regular practice, meditation changes us. The changes that take place can best be described as in St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22)
Christian Meditation is proven to:
- make children calmer and more relaxed
- help create a sense of wonder in children
- help create a sense of God in those who meditate
- help create a sense of community where each person is reverenced
- allow children a chance to be silent and experience God’s presence
- develops in children a greater ability to learn and maintain attention
Students at St James School participate in daily meditation as part of their class routines. Below are some photos of Kindergarten students meditating.

This week in mathematics, Kindergarten are using the language of money in everyday contexts (eg. coins, notes, cents, dollars). They are learning to recognise that there are different coins and notes in our monetary system and they are exchanging money for goods in our Coles Investigation area! Our challenge is: How many different ways can we build $1.00?
