Dear Parents and Carers
Next week Saint James will begin rearranging the playground with the children. Under the latest school directives we have established learning hubs and are now required to have playground hubs as well. This means that the children will rotate throughout the school spaces each day in their cohorts.
We have always prided ourselves on having children mix and share with all age groups - as you know theses are life long learnings and skills but just until the end of Term 4 we are following the directives from CSO- NSW Catholoic Schools and forward to the NSW Health. The minimusing contact is desinged to keep students safe and reduce risk.
We are now required to commmence the contact tracing at school if we have a positive case. To assist in this, all schools are expected to create hubs to increase the accuracy of the tracing and to ensure that if we were unfortunate enough to have a case we could reopen as soon as possible. You may have seen other schools where the whoel school was out for 2 weeks. These school would have been unable to confidently trace all interactions. As a result we have been asked to create the hubs.
While the community is opening up with access, the school guidelines are tighening .
We ask your support as we move forward. We will speak wiht the children on Monday to explain the new play areas.
We have already re-arranged the seating for children in Kiss and Drop and bus lines in preparation.
See you without a pirate suit in in Kiss and Drop

Mini Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Mini Vinnies is collecting food items for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
Some families in our community are unable to buy special treats to share with their loved ones at Christmas time and rely on Christmas food hampers from St Vincent de Paul.
We are asking the St James families if they could donate any of the following non perishable food items to help make Christmas Hampers.
Christmas treats for the hampers include: long life custard, long life milk, plum pudding, blocks of chocolate,Christmas cake, bags of lollies, soft drink, cans of beetroot, pineapple, corn, peas or fruit, packets of jelly, popcorn, chips, nuts, corn chips, salsa, milo, fruit mince pies, icy poles in plastic, biscuits or anything else you might enjoy at Christmas.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Aboriginal Spirituality Cross
We were thrilled to receive our special indigenous painted cross from local indigenous artist, Debbie Taylor. The cross represents Yaegl Aboriginal Spirituality and our Catholic Faith through art.
The Holy Trinity radiates from the top of the cross, and is represented as the sun beaming down on us. The shells and the dolphin represent Yamba and the coast. The dolphin is a Yaegl totem.
The lower part of the cross represents the Clarence River (Biirrimba) which connects everybody in the Clarence Valley. The markings on the sides of the river represent the people. The river represents the cycle of life, as the students move through their school life at St James School.
The markings between the shells and the dolphin represent the school community and wider community of Yamba and the Clarence Valley.
This cross will be used as part of school liturgies and celebrations throughout the year. We are honoured to display this cross as part of our local culture and Catholic faith.

CROSS YOUR FINGERS!
Little J's
New students to introduce and much fun to be had.
Week 5 - Little J’s
Ahoy!!! Today was all about pirates in Little J’s. We found a treasure map inside our pirate book. The map led us to an old boat, then it directed us up the cubby house ladder and it concluded at the Sandpit boat. We dug for treasure and found a chest full of chocolate gold coins! What an exciting journey. We built a pirate ship from cubby pieces, made a pirate hat and listened to lots of pirate stories. Another adventurous day of exploring spaces and making new friends!
Early Stage 1
This week in ES1 we have been busy exploring ‘Handfuls” in mathematics. We have been taking a handful of counters and predicting how many we have in our hand. Next, we organise the counters so that anyone walking past can work out how many there are by looking and thinking (without counting). Questions are asked: Can you organise the counters another way that would make it even easier to work out the total? Is there another way? Are there more or less counters than you predicted? How many more or less?
Stage 1
As part of our PE and Creative Arts unit this term stage one has been learning dance. We have explored how our movements match the rhythm of the music and can be sets of repeated sequences. Students have been working to compose their own dance either as a team or solo. We are learning to synchronise our movements to be in time with each other, utilise the space around us and the different levels and space our bodies can create during dance. There are some fantastic dance moves being choreographed.
