Dear Parents and Carers
Well, the bike trail is fabulous! (remember to follow us on Instagram to see the shots)
I know not every stage was able to enjoy the adventure this week, BUT we will go again in a few weeks. Is anyone a meteorologist and wants to predict the weather in Week 7 ?
We are planning an increase of the length of the road trail and adding some small moguls with a passing lane.
I do not know what that looks like, but as the S3 children turned the soil heaps for our gardens into jumps on Monday, we are prepared to build them for the children.
This will not be on the bush paths, but on the open area. ( I have asked google but only after the children were discussing this on Thursday and the story is better if I say I do not know!!)
The Stage 3 children consulted with the contractor on Thursday ( during Maths- So sorry Mrs Petersen) and have planned the small modifications and I have done the risk paperwork. Everyone has a job!
You will notice the changing parameters for schools in the past week. I have a zoom on Monday but the thinking is that our restrictions will look slightly different after December 1, 2021. Stay tuned.
Have a lovely weekend, stay safe

“SOCKTOBER” IN OCTOBER CRAZY SOCK DAY- Tuesday 26th October
Students will be able to wear their crazy socks on Tuesday 26th Oct and are asked to bring a gold coin donation to donate to the Catholic Mission.
Catholic Mission World Mission month 2021- Thailand
Socktober for Mission Month encourages us to engage with mission for children by using our heads to enquire about the reality of the world around us, using our hearts to feel empathy for those in situations of great need, and using our hands to take action for them in whatever way we are able.
This year’s school resources for “Socktober” will focus on the Church’s work in Thailand, specifically those from slum areas in Bangkok, the bustling capital.
The Good Shepherd Sisters have been supporting communities in need in Thailand for over 55 years, starting in Bangkok and eventually expanding their work to other provinces including Phuket and Chiang Rai.
The Sisters have a mission to build partnerships that promote the dignity and human rights of all, especially women and children. Among the many programs run by the Sisters in the bustling capital of Bangkok is a kindergarten for children from an urban slum where many simply cannot afford to send their children to school. The kindergarten offers two life‑changing services for both local women and their children: firstly, the Sisters provide a loving education in a safe place, catering for essential needs; and secondly, this allows the parents to freely work and earn a living for their families without fear for their children’s safety.
Run by Sister Chalaad Sungkalurk R.G.S., the kindergarten aims to help children from families in difficult financial situations receive education that promotes mental, emotional, social and educational development; provide a safe environment for these children; and lastly, promote collaboration with local families.
Through Socktober, students can learn more about how they can be missionary and support children in Thailand and around the world through prayer and fundraising to have the same opportunities we are afforded here in Australia.
Thank you for your support with this.

LOP Writing Challenge 2021 K-6
Writing a song
The LOP writing challenge for 2021 is to write a song about Yamba. When children learn how to write songs, they are learning how language works and how to experiment with different rhythmical and rhyming structures. To begin you may like to come up with an idea (based on Yamba). Make a list of some of the words you associate with your idea. Choose a melody to start with, such as a nursery rhyme, as they are simple and memorable. You may wish to write a verse or two (just like writing a poem) and then bring it to me for feedback. You may wish to write the whole song and hand it in. Either way is acceptable. All entrants will be invited to attend a special day to share and enjoy the songs you have written.
Have a listen to the songs about Yamba below ( YOUTUBE LINKS attached ) for inspiration.

Camel Train lyrics
Every Christmas holidays my father drove a camel train
It was called a camel train, he wouldn't stop for no-one
Oh we wanna wee wee
We want him to pull over
He wouldn't stop until we got to Yamba
How much further now dad, how much more to go?
JUST HANG ON KIDS, HAVE A SLEEP, THIS ROAD IS ROUGH AND SLOW-OW
Most of it was gravel rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr
No matter how much we moaned he kept on through the mountains
The old family car winding, grinding through the dust
We always got car sick, BOO, STICK IT OUT THE WINDOW
He wouldn't stop until we got to Yamba
How much longer now dad, how much more to go?
JUST HANG ON KIDS, PLAY A GAME, I SPY WITH MY LITTLE...
Most of it was gravel rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr
I spy with my little eye something beginning with s... h... sh...
SHUT UP!
Nowadays there's no chance of driving like a camel train
Roadhouses jump out and pull you off the road
Oh we wanna wee wee
We want a smurf and icecream
It always takes us days to get to Yamba
How much further now dad, how much more to go?
JUST EAT UP YOUR LOLLIES, YOU KIDS HAVE MADE US SLOW!
(Mumbling and grumbling to each other)
Now I won't stop until we get to Yamba
Every Christmas holidays my father drove a camel train
It was called a camel train, he wouldn't stop for no-one
Oh we wanna wee wee
We want him to pull over
He wouldn't stop until we got to Yamba
No, he wouldn't stop until we got to Yamba
Have fun and enjoy writing.

Begins next Friday- check your emails for details.
And introducing ...
JOEY and AMELIA
Thanks Mrs Smith and Eli for introducing Joey. Thanks to Miss Smith and Ella for introducing Amelia.
Bit confusing two Smiths on the one day, BUT at least all the Little J's and their families will have a 1/14 chance of getting a name right with Smith.
ES1
Kindergarten students have shown a real interest in identifying the birds in our school environment. A Bird Viewing Investigation area has been set up and we have been busy reading and writing about the birds we are noticing, see the photos below. We have also been responding to a Dreamtime story called How the Birds got their Colours. In Mathematics, we are learning about mass. We are describing and comparing the masses of objects using everyday language (e.g. heavy, light, hard to push, hard to pull). You may want to discuss this learning at home with your child.
Stage 1
This week in stage 1 we have been exploring number lines and number patterns. The students worked together to ‘feel’ the space of ten on a number line. Using a measuring tape students competed to see who could get closest to a ten or five number without looking at the numbers, they had to estimate by feel. They had lots of fun with this activity.
Students in investigations this week have been busy getting creative in box construction. The whole body box costume of Spinosaurus was hard work. We continue to see great learning during our investigation time.
Inquiring Minds hard at work!
Stage 3
STEM
We finished our Bushfire support STEM Challenge!!!!
Our task was to choose one of the following challenges;
- Build a sphero trailer to carry much needed water or food to animals in need.
- Build a sphero trailer reseeding device to support forest regrowth
- Build a sphero trailer to support an iphone camera to look for animals needing medical attention.
Science :
In Science we are trying to grow salt crystals. We mixed epsom salt, food colouring and water to create a saturated substance. Then we dipped a pipe cleaner into the substance and we are hoping to grow our very own crystals!!!!!
Bikeathon:
Stage 3 were lucky enough to get their day for the bikeathon in before the rain hit this week. We all enjoyed exploring and using the new track, and some of us even made some jumps out of leftover bark and soil near the hall.
