Dear Parents and Carers

As we come to the end of the term, can we once again acknowledge the collaborative and co-operative spirit that has supported us as a community in Term 3. We wish you all a safe and relaxing break and look forward to seeing you in Term 4.

Can we congratulate the children and staff on the $260 raised with our "cards and coin" mufti. The cards are made and the flowers are ordered for Caroona to brighten spirits and spaces while the residents have restrictions in place. The delivery of cards and flowers will take place on Monday morning.

If you remember, we postponed the bike week and said that once we got the children back to school for two weeks we would attempt a "take 2". So... Week 2 Term 4 - Let's try a Bike Week!

We will continue to communicate with you regarding any issues which may arise but please remember we will quietly go ahead planning our end of year in the hope of a relaxation in guidelines.

This weekend you will receive an email notifying CSO fee relief. Please contact me if you wish to proceed. This requires specific documentation.

Best Wishes

Ann

Anggailya (The Calling)

We were very excited today to receive our beautiful commissioned painting from renowned Yaegl artist, Frances Belle-Parker. Frances is a proud Yaegl woman, painter and installation artist from Maclean. She is deeply inspired by her Yaegl indigenous heritage. Frances was recently showcased at the Sydney Opera House, where her painting lit up the Sydney Opera House on Australia Day.

We contacted Frances earlier this year, to commission her to paint an artwork depicting the story of when Jesus calls the first disciples, including James the fisherman (Luke 5:1-1). This artwork will be displayed in our front school foyer and be part of our 'welcome to St James' display that clearly identifies who we are as a Catholic school in Yamba and also tells our story and history as a school.

Last year was the beginning of a 3 year journey as a school, where we worked on developing an understanding of who St James, the apostle was and began building our Catholic formation and identity. This display and artwork we feel, is the next step in this formation journey. We are overjoyed to receive this painting, which will be a wonderful way to display Aboriginal Spirituality and our Catholic Faith through art of the story of St James.

LOP News

Backyard Blitz was a great story shared by Miss Dawson and inspired Stage 1 to complete inventories of their backyards and surrounds for different types of birds. Some great examples of their observations are in the pictures below.

ES1

The ES1 classroom is alive with joy and excitement. We have been reconnecting with our friends and playing with soft, fluffy, week old chicks! ES1 have created colourful, Kandinsky-inspired spring trees! We have celebrated two Birthdays and the smiles on our faces really says it all!

Stage 1

This week we have been expressing our gratitude for being back at school and out of lockdown. We also had those who are still in lockdown in our thoughts and our prayers. Students created artworks with messages of hope and kindness to everyone who is still at home. They also created chalk drawings out under the big top to welcome back all the students and teachers of St James and say thank you to everyone who helped us during online learning from home. Together we have had a wonderful last week of term, enjoying being back together with our friends and teachers.

We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday, see you all back again next term.
