Book Week- luckily we can all read anywhere!

Our annual Book Character Parade has moved online.

In each stage's morning zoom on Friday 27th August the children will "Showcase their fabululousness in their costumes."

The costumes can be as simple as you like, recognising that no one is going shopping! ( I was actually in Grafton purchasing mine as the lockdown announcement came through!)

There will be a book voucher prize given at random for participation in each stage. The voucher will posted out to the winners.

Can mum and dad and siblings join in?

Of course!!

Last Minute Prize

If you email yamp@lism.catholic.edu.au a photo in your book character costume in an "unusual spot" at home we will include these in the newsletter and award a prize. There is a catch!

You MUST be reading a book in the photo! Mrs Jeffrey has just pointed out that we live in the 21st centrury and a kindle or ipad are also options.

Dear Parents and Carers

For your support of the new learning at St James I have nothing but thanks.

We will receive another update late today from CSO regarding how the schools are about to be staffed for the remainder of this period of Blended Learning. I will email this as soon as it arrives.

We have all spent enough time online this week. So my note comes with prayers for all our families and the extended community.

See you soon

Ann

Playground

I found this while I was walking and talking on the phone this morning.

I am not sure which child in Hall School is planning a trip to the Cape but I know we all wish we were.

Early Stage 1

Kindergarten students have been busy listening to recorded stories, reading our readers, building sight words, making Rock Pools, and building prayer spaces at home. We have enjoyed zooming everyday at 11am to stay connected. We are getting better at remembering to mute our mic when we are waiting to talk. We announce our Learner of the Day during our zooms and we still get DOJO points for amazing work! Check out our work!

Stage 3

Firstly, a huge thank you to our wonderful Stage 3 students for all of their effort and hard work this week - we are so proud of you!

In English this week we continued our normal Literacy Rotation activities - Podcast & Response, Kids News, comprehension questions, and BTN & Note Taking. We also explored different types of poems, and composed haikus, autobiographical and colour poems.

In Maths we used MathsOnline to revise our Fractions knowledge, and completed mixed math mentals and word problems covering all areas of Maths learnt so far this year. We also started to explore 12- & 24-hour time.

In RE we undertook research to explore how modern day Confirmation came to be, how the words, rituals and symbols have come from Biblical times and Pentecost.

In Geography students explored what landmarks and landforms are, and researched the importance of each, giving examples and justifying their responses.

We finished off the week with Fancy Friday - we all came to the Zoom dressed in our best, and had a class game of Kahoot - what a lovely way to end the week, laughing with friends!

Next week we will celebrate Book Week, with daily activities relating to rich literacy. We have a special Zoom at 12pm on Monday with author Maggie Hutchings, author of 'Your Birthday Was The Best', to ask her questions and get her advice on how she writes her stories!

A reminder that Stage 3 daily Zoom's will remain the same next week, at 9:30am. We have also added another one at 12:15pm each day, as a check in for students who may need it - this Zoom is completely optional, but provides a smaller, quieter environment to ask questions and seek clarification.

See you on the Zooms!

Miss Haines, Miss Ross & Mrs Petersen
