Dear Parents and Carers,

The bike week is coming! Bookweek is coming! Reconciliation is coming! Let's hope and pray that  these are all that turn up over the next few weeks.

Thank you to those parents who have taken a cautious approach to the current situation. As you will be aware the LGA is open but some families are at school and others are not at school. Both of these responses are entirely appropriate. This does mean that we are "down" quiet a few children.

In the event, the children can access work online but as with the Diocesan Policy we are not in a Blended Learning phase until we have a large number of students offsite.

Lots of other interesting reading, so I will say farewell.

Ann

ES1

Early Stage One students are currently learning about Forces in Science and Technology. We are observing the way objects move and relating changes in motion to push and pull forces.  Our Guiding Questions are: How do different things move? Why do they move like this? Can I tell what objects roll, spin and slide? Can I explain why?  Is it a push force, or a pull force? We have an Investigation area that explores Forces and students are busy sorting and examining objects. We have Beyblades, Pop-its, magnets, ramps, mini skateboards, wooden spinning tops, fidget spinners, bouncing balls, bike wheels and balls. Ask your child to explain push and pull forces!

Stage 1

This week our photographer and reporter Ella C and Austin, collected some photos for the newsletter to share what they thought were the interesting ‘goings on’ in the classroom.

They focused on all the authors that are hard at work in investigations, crafting and illustrating their own books.

They also thought the newsroom and the farm animal addition to the lego were special too.

Great work Ella and Austin for sharing your inspirations this week.

Long Way Home Writing Competition

As you are aware (as avid newsletter readers!) all Stage 3 and Stage 2 children enter the Long Way Home competition each year. Real audiences for real authors. A lovely opportunity.  You may remember Erin Brady  and Clare Aman running a writers workshop for the children after our Mother's Day liturgy.

                                                                   Hot Off The Press!!

This week we received notification for the shortlist winners for the 2021 ‘The Long Way Home’ writing competition! The criteria was a story based on the theme of ‘look up’, and had to be 150 words or less. With 240 entries into the Primary School section, Stage 3 has had students selected! Their stories will be published in ‘Look Up - Stories from the Clarence Valley 2021’.

A huge congratulations to;

  • Dexta Jones, The Race
  • Pippi Short, Look Up
  • Tully Waghorn,  The Night When We Couldn’t Look Up

The winning story will be announced at the end of September, with the book being published in December.

Well done Dexta, Pippi and Tully, we are so proud of you!
