Term 3 Week 3 2021 (30/7/21)

What is On?

Dear Parents and Carers

Today is the 100th day our littlest learners have been with us. 

If you check out instagram you will see lovely stories and photos of the celebrations. 17 small learners who make every day a fresh and happy day for all the staff and students they encounter. 

Their  joy is at the heart of all we do. 

Next week they will be joined by 2 more small learners and we know that our new students will find friendship, a playmate and a welcome upon arrival.

The annual Book Fair is being finalised today and the senior students have collected the books   

( the article is  attached) Can I thank Mrs Jeffrey for co-ordinating this for the school. 

As I moved around the school today I have seen classes outside in the sun:- drawing, learning, playing and using all the spaces we have as another "classroom".  A lovely way to learn.

Yesterday, our "bush" classroom began taking shape. The Phase 1 is

-2 glades on the edge of the space with a small track in between.

-the next step is the first leg of the bike track. An up and back path and a turn around ( not unlike Kiss and Drop on a very much smaller scale). 

We are not quiet ready to open the space but the crusher dust will be laid in the next week or so.  When we are ready we will need a permission slip for accessing this area even though it is on school grounds. 

What might the children do there? It is all up to the children but they can not take anything off main site to use.  ( This is part of the bush playground philosophy.) Keep reading future newsletters for updates as we move forward.

Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal will be open for one more week.

Any donations of warm clothing and bedding are most appreciated.

Children can drop off donations at the school office or alternatively you can call the school office from Kiss and Drop and we will collect the items from you.

RE News

This week we launched the Stage 3 Religion unit on Sacraments using our new pedagogical approach of Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL has many positives: it is student centred, occurs in small groups, there is guidance and help from experts, authentic problems are involved and there is much self-directed learning.

During our unit launch, Stage 3 students were immersed in a sensory experience in the hall, where they recorded what they were wondering, asked questions and made connections with what they saw, smelt and touched. It was a successful launch of the unit and students are looking forward to what is to come!

Book Fair

A big thank you to all our families for supporting our Book Fair this year. It was a very successful fair, as we took approximately $950 worth of books in revenue for our school library. I asked some of our senior students to help choose the books from the fair (see our instagram video). I know all our students will enjoy borrowing these books and most importantly they all help to encourage our children to enjoy reading!

Early Stage 1

This Friday marks the 100th day of Kindergarten for our wonderful learners! Check out some of our writing this week: “In the first 100 days of school, I have learnt…..

…. to never give up. I have learnt to use finger spaces and I know lots of maths. (Hope)

….. I have learnt to be kind. I can read half of a book now. (Louis)

…….I have learnt how to spell “Clarry”. I have learnt lots of sight words and I can count backwards. (Dolly)

…….I have learnt to not give up and to count by 5’s. I cheer people up by being a nice friend. I have learnt people's names. (Maeve)

…..I have learnt that I am brave. I have made lots of friends and I am now counting by 10’s and 5’s. (Cleo)

During Investigations, Construction workers needed to build a structure using all 100 paper cups! Check out our hard-working construction workers, Jackson, Cruz and Elliott.

Stage 1

This week in our investigations we have made a few changes to the spaces. In dramatic play we have created a newsroom for the students to explore. We have our reporter, photographer and students informing us about what has been happening this week and what they have enjoyed the most

Stage 2

This week stage 2 has been learning about informative texts and the different ways we can gather information. We started to look at newspaper articles and the informative features. In groups students were given a picture (from the Olympic games) and they had to come up with a ‘Headline’ to match their picture and encourage their audience to want to read the news article. Students had a lot of fun and came up with some very catchy, clever and original headlines!
