Dear Parents and Carers

An interesting first week of term. Photos, meetings for sacraments and a nice start to learning for all. Not a bad way to start.  I met a Year 1 student this morning in Kiss and Drop and as I do, we discussed that the first week was nearly over.

His reponse? "Finally!" ... It could be a long term!

But seriously, a whole school photo on the first day with fresh faces, holiday tales tall and true, fresh uniforms and clean socks. It will be a very nice image.

You may have heard about the "DLSCL Growth Strategy"as it pertains to us. We are receiving a "relocatable learning pod" (I call it a demountable) in the next few weeks. I spent some time with the building contractor this week looking at the footprint of the build and the implications for our current infrastructure.  Imagine Miss Dawson on the end of the tape measure, in a skirt, sandals and opinions  saying "Really?!?"  and "I would like..." We will put out the plan when we receive it and will invite all to engage with us in the journey. Questions? Ask I may have a answer or I may need to find out. All questions are valid as they help us make sure we are on track.

#CC10 is on Tuesday next. Hope all have booked in. All are welcome, all belong. Please contact me if you wish to attend.

I would like to acknowledge Pope Francis and his passing. He has been a beacon of hope, joy and service in the Catholic Church. I am a bit of a fan of his messages and am praying for the success of the Conclave which starts next week. As a person who expects to be a cradle to grave Catholic and who works within the system, the focus of our experience as a faith community is hugely impacted at these times. He was wonderful and has left very big if slightly worn shoes to fill.( He apparently owned an old casio watch, an old pair of often re-soled shoes and a bible)

Hope to see you all soon

Ann

Confirmation Meeting

On Tuesday evening, Confirmation candidates and their families gathered at school for an information session led by Fr Roland. He spoke about the Sacrament of Confirmation and the important role of parents in supporting their child’s faith journey. It was a meaningful and successful evening, and we continue to keep these candidates in our prayers as they prepare to receive the sacrament.

See photos below

Sacrament Dates

Confirmation- Monday 19th May 2024, 6pm at St Mary’s Church, Maclean.

Reconciliation- Tuesday 29th July, St James Church, Yamba

First Holy Communion- Saturday 30th August, St James Church, Yamba

The order of Sacraments in the Lismore Diocese is:

Baptism, Confirmation (Year 3), Reconciliation (Year 4), First Eucharist (Year 4)

If you need more information about Baptism for your child, please contact the Parish Office in Maclean at 6645 1188 (open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm).

For any other Sacraments, please reach out to Mrs Howland at school. Please note that your child must be Baptised before receiving any other Sacraments.

If your child was Confirmed last year, they will be invited to receive Reconciliation and First Communion this year. To arrange this, please email yamp@lism.catholic.edu.au. We will be holding a meeting for parents regarding Sacraments, as part of the preparation. Parish Priest, Fr Roland will be facilitating this meeting at school. The date will be advised. All other preparation will be completed at school during Religion lessons.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school.

Mission Reps Project

COLLECTING EARN & RETURN

We’re excited to share that our school will be supporting St James Catholic Church as it celebrates its remarkable 50th year of service to our community. As part of the parish’s fundraising efforts to refurbish the church, we’ll be raising money through our school recycling program. Every bottle and can collected will help us contribute to this special milestone, honouring the church’s legacy and ensuring it remains a welcoming space for generations to come. We thank you for your ongoing support and encourage all families to get involved!

Our Mission Reps will lead our Recycling for St James Church project starting in Term 2. We’re collecting bottles and cans to raise funds for the church’s 50th anniversary refurbishment and help care for the environment at the same time!

Bins will be placed at Kiss and Drop.
You can place items directly in the bins or leave bagged donations beside them.

To keep things flowing, please avoid dropping off during Kiss & Drop times.
Thank you for your support in making a difference!

Late breaking News!

Ashton is in the team- for Polding -for soccer-as goal keeper.

He travelled to Bathurst to make the team. In a conversation with his mum last term I may have said "I am going to get RSI from doing these approvals!"His mum said "Imagine me on the Pacific Highway , up and back, up and back"

Great news! the NSW PSSA Soccer is in Ballina. Not much travel this time.
