Dear Parents and Carers
This has been an interesting week. For some reason our calendar is self-deleting events! Helpdesks have been sent!!!
At this stage August/September looks busy in our world but events keep dropping off! Please be patient with us as we try to get a resolution!
Thank you again for your help on Monday keeping everyone safe with the road access. DLCSL has taken steps to speak with Council regarding the drainage. I will keep you posted. On a related matter, I received an email this afternoon regarding Kiss and Drop. Could I recommend that all families take note of the message below and take care.
Att. Principal Council has received community concern regarding the management of traffic in and out of the school during pick-up and drop-off times which is impacting on through traffic along Carrs Drive. Could you please investigate this issue and implement appropriate measures to ensure that traffic accessing the property is managed safely for all road users. Council's Rangers are investigating the situation. Kind Regards
Today we also had the pleasure of meeting our new Little J's! They had a wonderful time exploring the school, playing with new friends and participating in a variety of fun activities. It was wonderful to meet our new families and share an icypole at the end of the day. We look forward to seeing them all again next Friday!
On another exciting note some Stage 3 students (Sanne, Zoe and Indie) are currenlty outside measuring and marking out new handball lines! You know how we love a good game of handball at St James! Thanks girls!
Have a great weekend.

The Feast of the Assumption
The Feast of the Assumption of Mary, celebrated on August 15th, is a special day when Catholics honour Mary, the mother of Jesus. On this day, we remember that God took Mary, body and soul, into heaven at the end of her life. This feast reminds us of Mary's closeness to God and her important role in our faith. It’s a joyful occasion that encourages us to trust in God's promises and to look forward to the gift of eternal life with Him.
Today, each class at our school celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary in their own unique way. Stage 3 gathered for a special Mass with Fr Roland and the parish community at St James Catholic Church, while other classes held beautiful liturgies and prayer services in their classrooms as part of their Religious Education learning. It was a joyful day filled with prayer and reflection, as we honoured Mary and remembered her Assumption into heaven.
First Holy Communion & Reconciliation
In the coming weeks, we have a group of 11 students who will be receiving the Eucharist of the first time at Mass. These students have been preparing for this Sacrament during Religion lessons. This is the final Sacrament of initiation. Students will receive Reconciliation from our new Parish Priest, Fr Roland Agrisola, prior to First Communion. Eucharist is unique among the sacraments as it is at the heart of our faith. For Catholics, the Eucharist, or Mass, is the most powerful way we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ.
The Sacrament of First Communion will be held in St James Church, Yamba on Saturday 7th September.
If you are interested in your child/ren being Baptised, please contact the Maclean Parish Office on 66451188 Mon/ Wed/ Fri 9am-2pm.

Religion
Our unit this term is Care For Our Common Home. This unit explores our roles as stewards of God’s creation. As stewards of the earth we are called to care for and protect our common home. We will look at indigenous perspectives in caring for our environment and the students will choose a specific area within our school grounds to focus on paying special attention and care to.
Science
This term we are focusing on properties of a range of materials and the way in which they are combined and separated. Particularly focusing on solids, liquids and gases students will investigate by combining and separating mixtures. This unit introduces students to the fundamental concepts of chemistry.
If each student could please bring in a clear plastic bottle or a glass jar with a lid to complete an experiment it would be greatly appreciated.
