SPORT IS ON THURSDAY for the next 4 weeks.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is exhausting being the principal of a school with such a sporty group of children!
Yesterday we waited all day on the Instagram feeds from the Rugby carnival in Byron Bay and today we are constantly checking phones for the latest from Homebush where children from our school are competing in the Polding Championships.
I love the noise of cheering classrooms where the runners or put-ters(I know that is not a word!) are being cheered in from afar. The only thing I like about the reality of the past 3 years is that we get to watch and cheer the children in. Mr Dougherty has spent the day with the team and has featured live on the "telly". He promised to wave but I have yet to see one. I expect he is pretty busy.
Iyla, Aiden, Henry and Jake all competed wonderfully and I know that PB's were broken. Final placings have just come through from Marty...Jake 4th- 1500m, Iyla 5th- 100m, Henry 5th- shotput and Aiden 11th-100m. Well done to all.
Sporty Spice (Mr Dougherty) has also spent the past 4 weeks working on getting another Surf School up with the Sporting Schools Grant as well as getting Swimming organised for the next 4 weeks.
Permissions will come out on Monday for both. As the S2 and S3 is a grant we do not charge the children for buses while the ES1 and S1 will pay $7 each for the 4 weeks of buses as well as the cost of the swimming lessons.
The need to check the swimming skills of our students has become an issue over the past 3 years and it is good to resume the lessons for the next month to support the learning we know is happening within families.
WEEK 2 is BIKE WEEK
What that means is that all children bring their bikes and ride from 9:30am until 10:30am.
The days are mufti when the classes are on the track.
Permission coming this afternoon.
ES1 and S1 can bring a scooter for their days if they so wish and the seniors bring bikes. Scooters/ training wheels will use the Big Top and Basketball Court.
While Mrs Robertson was on staff this was renamed the "cage of death". Every time Joanna and Marty chatted to an approaching S1 child, the handlebars turned the teacher’s way and they spent the time climbing the sides or getting their feet squashed. Needless to say bikes, helmets and closed in shoes are required for a child to ride (and staff too).
MONDAY is Stage 3, Tuesday is Stage 2 and Wednesday is Stage 1 and Early Stage 1.
These look like big weeks and big weeks coming but it is nice to see that the life of a school is diverse and busy.
The staff and school are invited to Mass on Saturday evening at St James in Yamba. 5:30pm.
And with all this we are back underway! I think there are 43 days of learning left in 2023. Let's make them count.

RE News
Next Wednesday 18th October we will be holding our annual Socktober event- Crazy Sock Day to raise money for Catholic Mission. Students and staff are asked to wear their crazy socks and bring a gold coin donation to support the work of Catholic Mission. This year is focused on the work undertaken by the Salesian Sisters in Timor-Leste, as people grapple with the effects of poverty, low quality healthcare and infrastructure, corruption and inequality. It is why the presence of missionaries like the Salesian Sisters, especially in regional parts of the country, is so important…
Exuro is a one-day faith retreat experience using various prayer methods, group processes and student-led discussions to equip students to be faith leaders in their parish school communities. It is intended that this cohort of students will be invited back for similar days
as part of student discipleship and peer leadership programs each year while they are in Catholic education.
Year 5 students from the 4 Clarence Catholic Primary Schools will travel with Mrs Hancock to McAuley College, Grafton on Friday 27th October for this one day retreat experience.
