Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week looks busy!

I feel that I need to get the washing dry and the wardrobe sorted.

Monday - school photos ( I'm wearing black)

Tuesday- gardening clothes ( gold coin donation so that I can wear denim 3/4 jeans)

Wednesday- normal ( should not say that! IT NEVER IS)

Thursday- Stage 3 on camp at Big 4. (Old clothes and expecting to get damp. BBQ dinner so old shoes for the splattering)

Friday- Packing a rashie or I will not get a chance to go down the slide.  (Don't worry I will take boardies and swimmers and a hat and sunscreen and lunch and a little bit of money for the tuckshop)

So whether you see me in Kiss and Drop or onsite (lovely to see you onsite too) you will not be wondering what on earth the principal is doing. ( I am sure that you all think that sometimes!)

The point of my list?

Now that we can be out and about while following the COVID plans, we are. Every chance we can get to appropriately broaden horizons we will.  All the staff are keen to support the children in developing a world view which appreciates one another and looks for the good in all opportunities.  It can be difficult in these times to be positive regarding our current circumstances and we are thankful for your support in helping the learners to look for the good.

Staffing News

Mrs Laura Hamilton has accepted the position of counsellor for Saint James. She will work 2 days per week.  Laura comes to us with vast experience on the northern beaches of Sydney and we know that her presence will be appreciated by the children and families in our community. Laura replaces Suz Abrahm who did not return in 2021, due to her workload in other settings.

Ella Mooney has commenced her maternity leave and is busy preparing for the arrival of her 2nd child. We welcome Lucy Howard as her replacement and know that Lucy will be made welcome in Stages 2 and 3. Lucy has worked in the local catholic school system for several years and is studying to be a teacher.

See you in Kiss and Drop or around the school.

Ann

Clarification on the Grafton Waterslide Day

Each year the children take part in the Premier's Reading Challenge. Íf all children take part and complete the challenge we go to the Grafton Waterslide on the last day of the school year.

The last day of 2020 was a "gully gouging, water racing, downpouring" day.  As such we were not comfortable taking the children. Next Friday we are taking Stages 1-3 to the pool as the promised make-up for last year.

ES1 will have the run of the school.  At the end of 2021, we will a) know how the kindergarten children are around water and b) be sure that they have completed the challenge as we want them to come with us.  You will appreciate it is a very big day and as such it is too early in the year to take the ES1 students out.

Next week we will be celebrating Vege Week and as part of this we will be taking part in the big vege crunch and preparing our gardens to grow our own vegetables. On Tuesday the 16th March we will be dressing in mufti clothes to go gardening, please bring a gold coin donation. At 10am the whole school will come together for the great vege crunch where we all bite into some delicious vegetables, so please pack some vegetables in your child’s lunchbox for Tuesday.

Early Stage 1

This week in Early Stage One we created our Religion Storytelling Boxes. These special boxes hold materials that students use to retell stories from the bible. Enjoy watching the video of Hope using her materials to retell the story of The Lost Sheep. Cleo, Dolly and Addison are loving making books in the Writing Workshop. We also have a Rhino Beetle in the Nature Investigation area that we have been examining and labelling its body parts. We are learning about Living Things and their needs in Science. You may want to discuss with your child: What is a Living Thing? What do Living Things need to survive?
