Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to Term 3!

This is traditionally an interesting term in schools, with Book Week and Fair, Sacraments,  Father's Day breakfast, Gala Days, and our Feast day. And that is just the highlights reel.

Today we started on a high with Jake Seivers in Eastern Creek in Sydney at PSSA placing 17th in his age division and running a PB by a significant margin. How good is that!

You will notice that the Book Week Parade is on again later in the term, where we dress up and celebrate our love of all things literature.

Our ES1 families had their first go at "costume interpretation or dressing up" with the celebrations for the 100 Days of School for our littlest learners. Everyone came ready with a top representing  100. Mrs O'Halloran had a shirt decorated with 100 coloured bandaids and a message...  "I survived 100 days in ES1", Mrs Imeson had 100 bugs on her shirt and a message "Can I just bug you?" and Miss Haines sported a bunch of 100 balloons made with pompoms! Such a creative crew. Thank you families and staff for you efforts to make this day really matter in the life of our school. (photos below)

Miss Haines is now at home recovering from the fun, packing and preparing for her trip to Portugal with the Diocesan Pilgrimage to World Youth Day. Have a great time Meg and we look forward to hearing all about the journey upon your return.

Over the next month, Miss Tess Ellem will support the learning in Early Stage 1. Welcome Tess.

Next Tuesday is the Feast of St James. We will be travelling by bus to  St James Catholic Church for a liturgy at 10am. All families are invited to join us at the church for the liturgy. This is not a Mass as  Father Nicolas will be away due to other commitments.

Have a lovely "warmish" weekend

Ann

THE FEAST OF ST JAMES

On Tuesday 25th July all staff and students will be travelling by bus to St James Church, Yamba to celebrate the Feast of St James with a liturgy. All families are invited to attend our liturgy at 10am at the Church. Students have been learning about who James was and the Mission he and the other disciples undertook in spreading the good news.

Please ensure you have completed the consent form via COMPASS for your child/ren to attend.

SACRAMENTS

The order of Sacraments in the Lismore Diocese is: Baptism, Confirmation (Year 3), Reconciliation (Year 4), First Eucharist (Year 4). All preparation is undertaken at school.

If you would like your child to receive these Sacraments, please contact Mrs Howland at school ASAP. We are currently finalising numbers for the parish office.

For your child to receive any of these Sacraments they must first be Baptised. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

If you are interested in your child/ren being Baptised, please contact the Maclean Parish Office on 66451188 Mon/ Wed/ Fri 9am-2pm.

Sport News

Cross Country

The NSW PSSA Cross Country championships were held today in Sydney. Jake Seivers competed in the 10yrs boys event running as part of the Polding team. Jake had a fantastic race and finished 17th out of 77 competitors. It is a great reward for the many hours of training and preparation that go into reaching this level of competition. Well done, Jake.

Athletics

The Diocesan Athletics carnival is being held in Coffs Harbour on the 15th August. Those students who have qualified for this event need to make sure that they have returned their permission note back to Mr Dougherty as soon as possible.

Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

Many thanks for your generous donations to the Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal. Our Mission Representatives presented St Vincent de Paul with all of the warm clothes and blankets that were generously donated by families at St James School. A big thank you to the Hadimioglu family for their very generous donation of warm clothing from Summi Summi fashion label.
