Dear Parents and Carers
And with this newletter Term 2 comes to an end.
We have ended with bang! A team of thirty six children and 4 staff travelled to Coffs Harbour to compete at the Zone Athletics Carnival. I received several comments from the carnival acknowledging the sportspersonship of the kids from Yamba, the effort put in and the excellent behaviour of the students. Well done to all and we look forward to hearing of the next adventure at dio.
Earlier in the week Levi O'Shea and Eamon Mawn represented the diocese at the Polding Rugby carnival in Forbes. The boys played 5 games, both making Possibles-Probables and while Eamon captained the Lismore team, Levi made it to PSSA as a Polding representative. Well done boys!
A big week for our children in an area of the curriculum that for many children is a very important part of their school life.
You will by now have received the Semester 1 reports. I was happy to read these and know that the teachers know your children as learners. Sometimes I am asked to explain why the reports talk about the curriculum in the comments. The reports should be written in a manner which reflects the outcomes that the children are working towards. The reports are to be focused on the level of learning within the outcomes so you might have a comment which explains not just what the children do but how well they do it. In this semester period you will also read about a goal that the staff have developed with/for the children in literacy and numeracy. The reports identify where the children are now and how they can improve.
Please remember to email or contact the school to request an interview if you have not already but would like to meet early in the next term.
Today the staff worked on our 4th Foundation Day investigating the implications of being a school named for Saint James the Greater over 2000 years after he lived. We finished the day with a Q and A with Father Nicolas and all staff really enjoyed working with Father.
The work done today will inform our Foundation Day celebrations in Week 2 Term 3. The Feast of Saint James is 25th July and you are all invited to meet us at Saint James Church to take part in the liturgy on that date and to joinus for a picnic lunch back at school afterwards. We are going to invite the parish to join us for the liturgy as well and would love to see any or all families on the day.
For the children I hope the holidays are a lovely break and everyone is refreshed.

Rugby Union
Eamon Mawn and Levi O’Shea were members of the Lismore Diocese Rugby Union team that competed at the Polding Rugby carnival in Forbes on Monday this week. Eamon, who was captain of the team, and Levi, both played exceptionally well and were selected in the Possibles v Probables game at the end of the carnival. From this game, a team was selected to represent Polding, and Levi was lucky enough to be selected into this team. He will now travel to Camden, as part of the Polding team, to play against the best junior rugby players across the state at the NSW PSSA carnival. This is a massive achievement from Levi and is the first time in over 10 years that St James has had a student reach this level in a team sport. Congratulations on your efforts boys!
